Translation

Accuracy, subject knowledge, good research skills, and a flair for writing
these are all essential aspects of translation.

I deliver carefully crafted texts in the appropriate style and register, localised for your target market.
As a New Zealander, I write in either British English or American English as required.
For European clients I can deliver 1000 to 2000 words overnight, depending on the nature of the translation project.

I specialise in

two main areas:

Medical Technology

I have over ten years’ experience as a technical translator with a focus on medical devices.

As well as building up a store of subject knowledge, I have also honed my research skills and compiled an extensive range of resources that I can use to your advantage.
Areas I have worked in include:
  • Ventilators and accessories for sleep apnoea treatment
  • Dental prostheses
  • Cardiac implants
  • Steriliser units for ultrasound probes
  • Rapid diagnostic testing devices

Types of documents: user, clinical and service manuals, product brochures and other marketing materials, web content, training materials, patient consent forms.

Marketing / Transcreation

Getting your message through to your target market.

It’s not just a matter of transferring words and phrases into another language – you want your translated marketing materials to have the same impact as the original version.

In marketing we don’t just translate words, we translate concepts – which need to be captured in flowing, idiomatic English, localised and tailored to your target market.

Industries I have worked for include:
  • Medical – sleep apnoea products
  • Cosmetics and consumer goods
  • Organisational psychology
  • Ecology/conservation

Types of documents: product brochures, PR and press releases, feature articles, web content, video scripts.

Standard Service

I work in the SDL Trados Studio 2017 environment, for consistent terminology management. As standard I use the three-step TEP process (translation, editing, proofreading) to assure quality.

Premium Service

For jobs requiring an extra level of finesse, I offer translations that have been revised and edited by a second person. I work with a network of colleagues who cover a wide range of specialist areas.
